Meet Our Judges

Kenneth Bauman - Whitetails

Kenneth owns a taxidermy studio in Anadarko, OK, where he has done taxidermy since 1989. He is very active in the OKTA, and has served as their president for the past 4 years. Kenneth is an extremely talented taxidermist and judge. He has competed for years and been very successful at the highest level, including 2 Breakthrough awards, 3 Master of Master awards, 5 State Champion awards, the National Award of Excellence in 2005, two time National Champion, and his first Best in World title in 2009. Kenneth has judged everything from fish, reptiles, reproductions, and whitetails. In addition to judging multiple state competitions this year, Kenneth will also be judging the Eastern Regionals. We are fortunate to have Kenneth on our panel of judges this year.

Kent Reedy - Birds

With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Kent Reedy is known as one of the best bird taxidermists and instructors in the nation. Kent became involved in taxidermy at the early age of 16, and has developed that interest into the successful school he operates today. Kent has won numerous Best of show awards at State competitions. In 1987 Kent won Best in World, as well as Best of Show at the World Taxidermy Championships. He followed that up with a Master of Masters win in the 1995 WTC. Kent is a great teacher and judge, and has judged State, National, International, and World competitions, including a trip to Europe in 2008 to judge the World Taxidermy Championships in Salzburg, Austria. We look forward to having Kent on our 2010 panel of judges.

Mitch Webb - Gameheads/Mammals

Mitch started in taxidermy in 1999 and opened a full time studio in Green Forest Arkansas in 2001. He began competing that same year.
Lifesize mammals and whitetails are his favorite to work with. He has been active in the Arkansas Taxidermist Association, and once held the position of vice president. Mitch is currently the president of the ATA. Between lifesize and whitetail Mitch has won 19 best of categories. He is the two time Southern Regional Champion with both lifesize and a whitetail. He has three peoples' choice awards and one Breakthrough Award. He has judged numerous state shows around the south including Oklahoma, Tennessee, Louisiana and Kansas. Mitch is a nice addition to our judging lineup, and we welcome him to Missouri.

Randy Pike - Fish/Amateur

Randy is one of our founding members of the MTA, and has been a judge for several MTA shows. While normally Randy handles the Amateur judging, this year he will be doing the fish judging as well. Randy has been a taxidermist for 33 years, and is an expert in all areas of taxidermy. In 1988 Randy won a Best in World with a yellow perch. He has also earned a Second in World short hair whitetail. Randy has done a lot for the taxidermy community, and for the MTA. He is well known for his talent as a judge and teacher, and has the natural ability to help taxidermists understand when critiquing a piece. Randy is our fourth and final judge, in an impressive lineup of judges.

Seminars

Kenneth Bauman - Molding and Casting

This seminar is for those looking to do some molding and casting on a budget. Taxidermists by nature are Penny Pinchers and Tightwads, and Kenneth is no different. Kenneth will be going over his methods of molding and casting whitetail noses, jawsets, fish fins, fish heads, rocks, antlers, and just about anything else you can think of for taxidermy mounts and habitats. Kenneth has come up with some creative ways to save some money without sacrificing quality. If time allows he will also do some casting to show the results he's getting with his methods. Anyone who has seen a Kenneth Bauman seminar knows this is a "can't miss"!!! Length 2 hrs.

Kent Reedy - Proper Bird Wiring/Wing Wrapping

Anybody can wire a bird and wrap bird wings, but as a bird judge Kent Reedy would rather we learn to do it right. Kent is going to show us why the way we currently wire our birds might just be the reason he finds anatomy issues when he judges them. Kent is going to demonstrate the 3 point system for wiring legs, and also go over wrapping and wiring wings as well. Kent also markets artificial bird heads, as well as a pheasant mounting video that should be ready for purchase at the time of the seminar. Length 2 hrs.

Mitch Webb - Mounting a Wild Boar Mitch will be mounting a shoulder mount boar hog from start to finish, showing some of the key things to look for in boar anatomy. Mitch gives an informative seminar, and will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have along the way. Length 2.5 hrs.

Randy Pike - Design and Composition Randy will go over the basics of design and composition, and show things we can do to make our competition work, and perhaps more importantly our commercial work stand out from the rest. Length 2 hrs.

Dan "Psycho" Hudzik - Skinning and Tanning an Alligtor

Dan is one of our "adopted" members from Illinois. Dan is an accomplished reptile taxidermist who's achievements include 2 State Championships in MO, 1 state championship in Ohio, and a Blue Ribbon at the 2009 World Taxidermy Championships. Dan will be demonstrating how to skin, flesh, and tan an alligator so that it is clean and ready for mounting. Length 2 hrs.

Jimmy Lawrence - Painting a Reproduction Steelhead

Jimmy Lawrence of Brighton Colorado will be joining us to demonstrate his proven methods of painting a spawning steelhead. Jimmy lives out in "coldwater fish country" and is an expert at painting all species of coldwater fish. If you do any fish work at all, the methods Jimmy uses would be benificial to know and can be used on any type of fish, including skin mounts. Jimmy will be painting a Lake Country replica and donating it to the live auction to raise money for the MTA. Length 2 hrs.

Dan "Psycho" Hudzik - Mounting a Crocodile

Dan will pick up where he left off with the first seminar, and demonstrate his method of mounting a croc from start to finish using the fill method. While mounting the croc Dan will explain some of the finer points of gator/crocodile anatomy, as well as explain how he would finish the gator/croc once it has dried. Don't miss out on this rare opportunity to gain some knowledge in an area of taxidermy you may not be very familiar with. Length - 2.5 hrs.
